Myra Swintz Profile

Myra Swintz RN, NCTMB

Myra is a registered nurse and is a nationally certified therapeutic massage and bodywork professional with over twenty five years of health care experience. Myra completed her nursing degree at Memorial Hospital School of Nursing (South Bend, Indiana). She has worked in psychiatric nursing specializing in both adolescent and adult services and in the home health care setting.

Myra felt there had to be a more effective way to provide for peoples' health care needs both physical and psychological, including health maintenance versus solely disease management. She sought education in CranioSacral therapy after she experienced a significant neck injury that was successfully relieved by these techniques. During those courses, Myra realized the techniques could help to prevent dis-ease and dis-ability as well as treat those impairments. In an attempt to look at each individual holistically, Myra does not disregard the benefit western medicine can contribute. That is why she continues working within the confines of traditional health care as a registered nurse, but chose to incorporate the eastern philosophies into her private practice as a nurse/massage therapist. Myra completed extensive continuing education on CranioSacral therapy (CST) and SomatoEmotional release (SER) techniques from the prestigious Upledger Institute.

Myra was led to massage therapy as a complimentary modality to the training she received at the Upledger Institute in order to more effectively treat all people seeking her help. Myra attained her therapeutic massage certificate from The Midwest Academy of Healing Arts in Brownsburg Indiana. With her extensive nursing background and her interest in holistic manual techniques she offers her clients an encompassing approach to meet their needs to achieve maximum benefit in mind, body and spirit.

  • As a registered nurse, Myra possesses clinical knowledge of physiology, psychology, medications and health maintenance to provide education on disease processes and condition management.
  • Incorporating the specialized CST and SER techniques helps to provide relief from challenging conditions including fibromyalgia, arthritis, migraines, orthopedic problems and trauma.
  • Myra's repertoire of massage techniques include Swedish, deep tissue, hot stone, trigger point, positional release and sports massage.

Myra came to Acupuncture of Indiana through her own attempts to achieve health and balance in her life. Myra is very excited to have this opportunity to collaborate with Tom and Shelly in this beautiful and peaceful setting.

Shelley Herkert Profile

Shelley Herkert RN

Shelley is a registered nurse who practices Reiki for clients in need of holistic healing of the mind, body and spirit. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a Bachelor of Nursing degree and a minor in Sociology and Family Development.

Shelley has spent the past 17 years as an ICU nurse, both in Newborn Intensive Care and most recently in Cardiovascular Critical Care. With her experience in the hospital setting, she gained an immense respect for Western medicine and experience beyond compare. She realized that treatment of the whole person (holistic), spirit, mind and body was essential, but difficult to do in the hospital setting.

Today, she is working to promote wellness as a Reiki practitioner. In the search for holistic healing herself, she was led to Acupuncture of Indiana. This setting has enabled her to find a way to bring healing to others in a manner that is not only physical, but emotional and spiritual, as well.

Shelley's first love is her family. Any spare time she has she spends with her two boys, Josef and Joshua and husband, Dan. Together, they have explored the majority of Indiana's State parks and multiple sporting and art events in the city.
